Mirante Dona Marta is in the Serra da Carioca, in Tijuca National Park, halfway between Botafogo and Corcovado. From the low wall, the view stretches from Sugarloaf Mountain to Botafogo Cove, with Guanabara Bay and Niterói in the background. Many people find the photo from here as beautiful as the one from the top of Corcovado, with the bonus of having Christ the Redeemer itself right above.
Getting there
The viewpoint is on the road up to Corcovado, inside the park. There is no regular public transport to the door. The most practical options are:
- Car, taxi or ride-hailing app: arrange your return in advance, because phone signal is weak in several parts of the park, as Tijuca National Park itself warns.
- Tour with a guide or authorized local guide: many Christ the Redeemer tours stop at Dona Marta.
Best time
In the morning, the sun lights up the bay in front of you. Sunrise behind Sugarloaf is spectacular, but requires pre-arranged transport and confirmation of the sector’s access hours on the park website. On days with low cloud, the view can disappear: pick a clear day.
Tips
- Bring water: do not count on any shops being open.
- Respect the space: do not climb onto the low walls.
- Combine it with Christ the Redeemer on the same outing, since both are in the same sector of the park.
